Children's Ministry (Son City)

The SPC Children's Ministry focuses on creating a safe and comfortable environment for children during the Sunday worship services. We call this environment Son City, and it is the centerpiece of how SPC ministers to children of all ages from infants through 5th grade.

Son CityEach age group has access to age-appropriate facilities, stimulating educational and spiritual material, and attentive and friendly supervision.

Your children are invited to come discover the exciting life found in Jesus and grow in a deeper relationship with Him and others.

Calling All Son City Summer Heroes!

Looking to make an eternal difference this summer? Consider working just one, two or three Sundays in Son City. There are openings at every age level. Everything you need will be provided - it's easy and fun! Please contact Kathy Purves, the Director of Children's Ministries.

Secure Sign-In & Pickup Process

Sign-In: You begin at the Son City Welcome Center, which is located in the back left corner of the lobby.  Your child will be given a numbered wristband with a detachable tab that has the matching number.  If your child needs you during the service that number will appear under the large screen  in the Worship Center.

Pickup: For your child to be released from the Son City classrooms you must present the numbered tab that matches his or her wristband.  It is very important that we provide the safest environment in Son City!

Supervision

Each age group cared for in SPC's Son City Children's Ministry are supervised by a team of dedicated volunteers who serve Christ by ministering and caring for our precious children. The staff is monitored through a system of coaches and is in compliance with our security procedures, including providing references and the information necessary for background checks.

Nursery & Toddler

Facilities: The Nursery has changing tables, age appropriate toys and a great collection of infant walkers for our littlest folks. The Nursery is also equipped with an adjacent quiet room for mothers who may need privacy while nursing or for napping babies. The Toddler room has many toys, song CDs, activity centers, and spiritual literature, all on an appropriate level for our walkers all the way up to two-year olds.

Structure: The toddler children are encouraged to play together, learning to share and play in groups. They also are encouraged to listen to short Bible stories and sing Bible songs. They are provided a small snack and drink during their time as well.

Pre-K

Facilities: The Pre-K classrooms contain age appropriate games, books, toys and learning centers, designed with children in mind. In addition, each area has child-sized, private restroom facilities available for the children. We do ask that all children in this age group be toilet trained.

Structure: Pre-K children begin their time with free play for about fiteen minutes. Following that time, they join the older children for a time of worship and a short Bible lesson.   They then return to their room to be led in various activities to demonstrate and emphasize the Bible lesson for the day using crafts and games. They are provided a small snack and drink during their time as well.

Elementary (Grades K-3)

Facilities: The Kindergarten to 3rd graders meet in one large, colorful classroom that has plenty of room for when they meet in their small groups later on in the service.

Structure: The Kindergarten through 3rd grade children begin their time with 15 minutes of games and fellowship, followed by a time of active, God-centered singing. The next 15 -20 minutes offers a creative and practical teaching time following our current theme.

Next, the children meet in huddles with their individual age group. This is the best time of all, Small Group Time! This twenty minutes is spent getting to know each other, learning how to practically apply the lesson and reviewing the memory verse for the day. The small group leaders spend time getting to know the kids, praying with them and encouraging them to trust Christ in their everyday life.

At the end of their small group time, the children remain in the large classroom until their parents come to pick them up following the service. To pick your child up, look for the first initial of your child's last name posted on the doors outside the rooms.

"Tweens" (Grades 4 - 6)

Facilities: The 4th to 6th graders meet in the back of the Worship Center to begin thier time with praise and worship with the adults.  They then head to the trailer for the rest of their time.

Structure: After their initial time of worship with the adults the "tweens" have a time of prayer, a lesson directed at their age level and a time for games and fellowship. They can be picked up at the trailer at the end of service.

Group activities are some of the most fun times for children in Son City.

It's fun getting down on the floor with the toddlers and babes in the Nursery.

Older kids love to serve in ministry by helping out with the younger childern.

After their parents pick them up from class, it's always great to get refreshments out in the Lobby together.
