Kathy Purves

Director of Children's Ministries

Kathy enjoys her family, here at SPC.

Our Director of Children’s Ministries, Kathy Purves, joined our staff after having been an active participant at SPC for 4 years. Prior to coming on staff Kathy served the church as a community group leader, one of our primary Son City teachers, our Sunday preschool director, and as director of our Vacation Bible School.

Kathy is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and is certified in Elementary Education in the state of Maryland. She worked her way through college as a nanny and went on to become an elementary school teacher for Charles County Public Schools.

During her tenure as a teacher in the school system she had the opportunity to teach in Japan for three years. Prior to that Kathy taught English to Japanese middle school students in an exchange- teaching program outside of Tokyo.

While with the county Kathy was a classroom teacher at Dr. James Craik ES and Berry ES. She was also an Elementary Gifted Education Resource Teacher at William B. Wade and Dr. Samuel Mudd Elementary Schools.

Kathy lives in the Hampshire neighborhood of Waldorf.
